The human musculoskeletal system consists of the human skeleton, made by bones attached to other bones with joints, and skeletal muscle attached to the skeleton by tendons.

Musculoskeletal is a general term which is defined as relating to muscles and the skeleton. Thus, the musculoskeletal system involves the:

  • joints (the place of union between two or more bones)
  • bursa (fluid sac between the muscles and bones that forms in areas of friction)
  • ligaments (a fibrous band of tissue connecting bones)
  • tendons (a fibrous band of tissue connecting muscle with bone)
